...and a proper post

Dio has a lump on her armpit :(

I'm about 98% certain it's a cyst. They're insanely common in rats and given how quickly it appeared, that seems most likely. But rats are very prone to cancer, so that's in the back of my mind and freaking me out a bit. She's only 1 and a half. Too young for cancer!

Poor wee beast. I'm taking her to the vet in an hour. I expect they'll lance it, which will make her grumpy and uncomfortable. If she wasn't so chubby already I'd give her comfort food. As it is, she will have to content herself with comfort broccoli.

*cuddles rat*

ETA: it's a lump, not a cyst. I feel very dumb for being so complacent, but at least I took her to the vet straight away. She's booked in for surgery on monday morning. I'm hoping it's just a fatty lump and not a tumour. Poor Dio :(

She had a grand old time at the vet though. She got lots of cuddles, got to see a new and exciting place and didn't even seem to mind being poked about lots. She only weed on me once too ^_^

Well that's weird

We've changed our house layout. I'm rather more baffled by this than I'd expect.

We had to clear our our bedroom for destruction (yay last room!!!), so we put the bed in the spare room and built the wardrobe we got off freecycle. Then we discovered our stuff actually fits in the spare room a lot better than it had in our bedroom. This is odd as the room is actually smaller by a fair bit (but rectangular, instead of the crazy clusterfuck of nooks and crannies that is the front bedroom). So we're going to stay in there.

I now get the largest room for my desk and sewing stuff and only have to share it with the spare bed! Wicked!

Have 2 *massive* wardrobes to dismantle and reassemble later today then destruction can start on Monday!!!

Here we go. The end is in sight!

Lobachevsky in My Pants

meme!  [livejournal.com profile] gobtastic did this and it's rather funny, so I thought I'd see what my music would kick up.

RULES:
1. Put Your itunes, windows media player, MP3player, etc on Shuffle
2. For each song, write "in my pants" after the song name.
3. YOU MUST WRITE THAT SONG NAME DOWN NO MATTER HOW SILLY IT SOUNDS
4. Put any comments in brackets after the song name
5. Put number 20 as the title.

In real life, I've been trying to earn my keep by finishing the house! Rich has been so busy with physics our DIY schedule had basically got t weekends only, which isn't enough time to actually do anything, so I'm on the case now, and the spare room will be finished tomorrow (after the last coat of paint on the door has dried. stupid gloss taking 16 hours to dry!). I've done a great  big plan, and hopefully our bedroom will be finished by the end of June!

Today I have to get up in the loft and try and clear the area over our bedroom, so we can destroy the ceiling. This will be very hard as currently almost all our stuff is stashed up in the loft and there's no sort of organisation. Oh well. I have a few days to sort it out. Plaster destruction is due to commence next week!

Also, Rich introduced me to Freelancer and I've been spending most of my free time playing it. It's a space type computer game, much like Elite, and it's brilliant. The system designs are lovely, with nebulae and asteroids and all sorts of fun things, and I can actually kill stuff, (unlike Elite, where I was crap) so I'm quite enjoying the missions. This is 2 games now that Rich has said are good and I've really enjoyed (the other being Deus Ex, which is now my favourite computer game ever). Odd how it takes 5-10 years for me to try out computer games!

weird, the stuff you see on internet snark comms.

Strange isn't it, how the internet is really only *this big* (makes small gap with fingers). There's a girl on that same community who went to my primary school. I find this bizarre.

Edit: I should add, the community is sf_drama. So the reason they're being horribly rude is just that that's what sf_drama is for. They mean absolutely nothing by it!

Edit2: I'm useless today... the point of this is that Nathan the Toxic Pixie is someone I've actually met *in real life* (shock gasp). It's very odd to see him mocked by internet people.

heh

After some minor rat-proofing I now have one of the most wonderful things ever: a really cute rat infested desk!

Dio stood on my mousemat a while ago, I *so* have to take a picture of her in "mouse" mode! soooooooo cute.

It does of course prevent Archie in the room, but I get to cuddle him all the time, so we can cope.

severe pain.

I had 2 wisdom teeth out yesterday! Huzzah for no sore teeth, but boo for new sore face.

The boring story:

all 4 of my wisdom teeth are impacted. The top 2 grow into my cheeks, the bottom 2 were growing sideways, pointing towards my other teeth. These were the problem bastards. food got stuck, the gums got irritated, it took me an age to clean them and general blah.

So, In september I went to the dentist and he said that he'd refer me to the hospital. Only 2 years after I stared to have problems *sigh*. November saw me being prodded at the maxilofacial unit in the hospital and last Friday I got a letter from the treatment centre.

Actually, the letter came at 2pm on Friday the 12th, and told me I was going to have an assessment at, wait for it, 12pm on Friday the 12th. Yay for NHS efficiency. I called and they did it on the phone, but I was rather pissed off.

so yesterday I went to the shiny treatment centre at queen's medical centre. for you warwick types, it's designed just like the learning grid. Spacious and shiny. It doesn't look like a hospital at all. I suppose it's meant to be relaxing, but I thought it was quite weird.

I was shown to my cubicle, told to remove all my body jewellery (including nipple bars. That was rather tricky. those things haven't been unscrewed for 4 years!) and I put on my back opening hospital gown and my comfy dressing gown and slippers from home. I had no bed, just a reclining chair, but it was comfy and I could knit.

then I got asked lots and lots of boring questions, with repetitions in case I got it wrong first time: "are you allergic to anything?" "are you on any medication" - why do I have to answer these 4 times? "no" "yes" there. *gah*. I met the anaesthetist, who was very nice and said he'd give me stuff to stop me vomiting (as I did the last time i had general anaesthetic), and i met the surgeon who was also very nice and told me that the risk of permanently numb lips was less than 0.1% (there's a nerve that runs under the roots of back wisdom teeth. it can get damaged by the extraction). so that was good news.

Then, 2 and a half hours after I arrived I was walked right into the Operating Theatre. No anaesthetic room for me, oh no. I lay on the table and 4 people bustled about me, sticking probes to me, fiddling with the bed, fitting the blood pressure monitor, putting a needle in my hand, spraying local anaesthetic up my nose (which tasted horrible) and generally making me feel quite set upon. Then the anaesthetist gave me the anti-vom stuff, and then the anaesthetic, which kinda hurt a bit (my veins are really rubbish and don't like things going in or coming out of them).

Next thing I remember was waking up, feeling very very cold and being unable to get my feet under the inadequate blanket they'd given me because I couldn't move my legs. A nice nurse added another blanket and tucked me in, and gradually I regained consciousness. After about half an hour of the oxygen mask and feeling very squiffy, I was wheeled back to my chair, where I was given squash and a yoghurt (the first things I'd eaten all day!). I was offered jelly, but I'm a healthy girl! Oh yes.

I got my nipple piercings back in and got dressed to wait for Richard, who drove me home and then fussed over me. Lovely boy that he is.

The painkillers I'd been given for the op wore off at about 10pm and BLOODY HELL! But I've been given codeine, which is nommy. So i'm kinda coping. You know it's bad pain when 2 codeine tablets, ibuprofen *and* paracetamol all at once isn't quite enough to stop it hurting. It's not surprising though. the way my teeth were meant that they had to cut my gum, remove some of my jaw bone to get to the teeth, then break up the teeth so they could get them out. No way those babies were coming out in one go! My face is puffed up like a hamster.

Now i'm sitting in bed, rambling (blame the drugs) and crocheting a truncated icosahedron to give to my supervisor. I expect I'll be here all day.

Schmeh.

TL;DR - I had 2 wisdom teeth out and now my face hurts.

you know there's something wrong with education when...

You have to remark 40 first year physics scripts because the postgrad hired to do it can't do the questions herself.

damn,  I hate having responsibility sometimes

kitty update!

Here are lots of  photos and a few vids of our cat. He moved in a week and a half ago and he's been a mentalist since then.

I've never met a cat who likes cuddles this much. He miaows and miaows in the morning until he gets his hugs. Even hard-nosed Rich thinks he's amazingly cute!

yay!

so, here you go

watch out internets!

Nanna goes online on Monday.

Eek.

explanation: Chris has moved in with Nanna because she's never lived alone (so needs the company) and the lease ran out on his house so he needed somewhere to live. She'll get to boss him around and he'll introduce her to the internet.

win-win really.

I wonder if she'll start a video blog....
